The Sustainability Council is strictly a consultative body. Its mission is to prepare and propose sustainability strategies. It thereby provides the guidelines for implementing sustainable practices in the projects being undertaken by the EBX Group’s companies.
Main attributes:
- To propose strategic activities that place the EBX Group in the vanguard of committed corporate practices with regard to sustainable development;
- To contribute to the improvement of the EBX Group’s Environmental, Social Responsibility and similar activities;
- To offer opinions regarding subjects related to the EBX Group’s Strategic Sustainability Plan;
- To contribute to the preparation of the Group’s private social investment policy.
Name: Eneas Salati
Agronomist from the University of São Paulo (USP). Ph.D. in Agronomy. Director, Brazilian National Institute of Amazonian Research (INPA), São Carlos Institute of Physics and Chemistry (USP) and the Center for Nuclear Energy in Agriculture (CENA-USP/CNEN). Prepared and published more than 120 scientific papers in national and international journals on topics such as Amazonian Ecology and Hydrology, Research in Brazil’s Semi-Arid Northeast Region, Solar Energy, Global Climate Change, among others. Member of several scientific institutions. Won Brazil’s Medal of Scientific Merit. He was the principal investigator responsible for describing the water cycle in the Brazilian Amazon.
Name: Ibsen de Gusmão Câmara
Formerly Vice-Chief of Staff of the Brazilian Armed Forces with the rank of Admiral. Through his support, the creation of several parks and reserves in the Amazon and marine regions were made possible, such as the Atol das Rocas Biological Reserve and the National Marine Park of Fernando de Noronha. He has received numerous awards and commendations related to nature conservation, including recognition by the Brazilian Academy of Sciences for his individual contributions and a knighthood granted by the Dutch Royal family. He is an adviser to dozens of NGOs and, for over a decade, was a member of the Brazil’sNational Council for the Environment (CONAMA).
Name: Marc Dourojeani
Forestry Engineer and Entomologist. Emeritus Professor at the Peruvian National Agrarian University of Lima. He was Peru’s Director General of Forests, Parks and Fauna, Head of the Environment Division of the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) and Vice-President of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN). He is a member of the IUCN Parks Foundation Commission and founder of Pro Naturaleza (Peru). Author of numerous articles and books, especially on biodiversity and nature conservation areas.
Name: Marcos Sá Correa
Journalist specializing in the environment and photographer. He has a degree in History and writes for several media outlets in Brazil, such as Piauí magazine, O Estado de S. Paulo newspaper, IstoÉ magazine and the O Eco webpaper. He was chief editor of Jornal do Brasil (JB) newspaper, a columnist for Veja magazine, IstoÉ, Época magazine and JB, as well as managing editor of O Dia newspaper. He has written four books, including a biography of Oscar Niemeyer. He is notable for his articles in the press related to environmental issues.
Name: Maria Tereza Jorge Pádua
Agronomist. She was president of the Institute of Environment and Natural Resources (IBAMA). While at the Brazilian Institute for Forestry Development (IBDF), she enabled the creation of 9 million hectares of national parks. In 1981, she won the Paul Getty Award for Conservation of Nature and an environmental conservation prize from France; Member of the boards the O Boticário Foundation for the Protection of Nature and the World National Parks Commission of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN). She devised and implemented the Tamar Project for the protection of sea turtles, the Manatee Project and the Research Center for the Conservation of Wild Birds (CEMAVE). She also was responsible for environmental area for Cia Energetica de São Paulo (CESP). She created Funatura, an NGO, based in Brasilia, which works to protect the Cerrado ecosystem.
Name: Miguel Milano
Forestry Engineer graduated from the Federal University of Paraná, with a Masters and Ph.D. degrees in Forestry Science. He was Director of the Forestry Research Foundation of Paraná, Executive Director of the O Boticário Foundation for the Protection of Nature, Professor at the Federal University of Paraná and Avina Foundation representative to the South of Brazil and the Pantanal. He is currently a visiting professor at Colorado State University in the United States. He has over 50 published works, about 40 of which as principal author and others as co-author.
Name: Thomas E. Lovejoy President of the H. John Heinz III Center for Science and Chief Biodiversity Adviser to the World Bank. He specializes in social and environmental issues related to Brazil, where he lived for 17 years. He received his Ph.D. and B.S. in Biology from Yale University; was advisor on Biodiversity to the President the United Nations Foundation; Chief Biodiversity Advisor to the World Bank; Chief Scientist and member of the board of the Smithsonian Institution; Science Advisor to the Secretary of Internal Affairs of the United States Government; and Executive Vice President of World Wildlife Fund in the United States. He also worked with official boards and committees for Science and Environment in the U.S., under the administrations of presidents Reagan, Bush and Clinton.
Name: Werner Batista EBX’s Director of Administration since 2009. Graduated in Economics from Candido Mendes University in Rio de Janeiro, with graduate studies at New Florida University. With 32 years of professional experience in of economy, trade and administration. From 1979 to 1991 he worked at EBX, accompanying the entire process of the structuring of the Group. He worked for 20 years in foreign trade in the United States, and has recognized expertise in import and export matters.
Name: Paulo M. Barbosa Filho
Sustainability Director and Chairman of the EBX Group’s Sustainability Council. He graduated in Electrical Engineering from the Pontifical Catholic University of Petrópolis with an MBA in Management and Strategic Planning. He has 30 years of experience in the electricity industry. Since 2001, he has been responsible for strategic energy planning for the EBX Group. He was Chief Executive Officer of Enersul SA, responsible for developing a strategic plan for its generation park, as well as studies and negotiations for implementation of the gas company of Mato Grosso do Sul. He was consultant to the Federation of Industry of Mato Grosso do Sul. |
